DumpSolver Benefits

Reduce Haulage Costs

DumpSolver studies carried out to date have shown that waste haulage costs can often be reduced by between 5c and 15c/tonne by optimising the design of a waste dump.

Reduce Environmental Impact

Aesthetically, traditional rectangular waste dumps are literally a blot on the landscape.  The typical output from DumpSolver is a lower more contoured dump shape.  With gentler slopes, the dump will have better landform stability (moisture and soil retention) and therefore be safer and easier to rehabilitate.  As a consequence, a more environmentally friendly dump shape can also be a cheaper alternative.

Lower haulage costs that result from a DumpSolver waste dump are directly proportional to a reduction in fuel consumption, which in turn will lead to lower greenhouse gas emissions.  A positive contribution to a mining company's sustainability policy will result.

A Rigorous Planning Tool

For the past 15 years mining professionals have taken great care to ensure open pit designs are optimal.  The same is not true for waste dumps which are often given scant attention during a feasibility study.  Sterilisation drilling is carried out, the necessary environmental and regulatory permits are applied for – but the physical waste dump design is often an afterthought.

DumpSolver remedies this.  DumpSolver is a solution that uses a proprietary software program equally applicable to both proposed and existing open pit mines.  In the case of an existing operation, DumpSolver can assess the current waste dump arrangements, carry out a benchmark and then propose optimal layouts and dumping strategies to reduce haulage and rehabilitation costs.

Our clients will be able to capitalize on the wide experience gained from the dedicated nature of our work.

One of the key benefits from DumpSolver is that it refutes the myth that an environmentally sensitive dump need cost more.  Rigorous planning enables the most economic dump shape.  DumpSolver’s advanced method of handling constraints allows the impact of specific decisions to be assessed financially and collectively rather than subjectively.  This enables management to control the dump construction process and target expenditure.
